Islam and Keith Ellison

I just wanted to touch on something Corey was talking about in his Universal Health Care post. I would love to say that there is a light at the end of the tunnel but as a nation wide thing I don’t see it happening because the GOP scare machine has so many people believing that if we go to a single payer system you will have to stand in line for days to be seen by a doctor and if you have a heart attack well too bad. This of course is false. I think the better chance is that Minnesota will move in the direction on single payer coverage. But that is not what I wanted to talk about, I just get off on tangents. The thing that me going today was an interview done by Glen Beck (of CNN) with Keith Ellison. During the interview Mr. Beck asks Mr. Ellison to “prove” that he is not working for the enemy. Now just for the time being I would like to set aside the whole problem of proving a negative. As far as I am concerned that question should be end of Mr. Becks life in media, I mean if nothing else the man was just elected to the house of Representatives of the United States that alone should prove his love of this country. As a broader point though what is the conservatives problem with Islam? Bad people come from every walk of life and from every wear on earth, there are even some who call themselves Muslims. We don’t hold all math professors to the fire because the Una-bomber was a lot nuts. And like I said above just because Bin Laden and his fellow goof balls invoke the words of Islam dose not make them Muslim. They are to Islam what the KKK is to Christianity. As a society we need to learn that the VAST VAST majority of Muslims are peace loving members of the world community who want nothing more or less in the world then you or I want. But like I asked before why does the right have a problem with Islam? For the most part I really think that it can be boiled down to the fact that a lot of people don’t have a clue and they don’t want one. I think people are afraid of what they don’t understand, and for those that do know what they are talking about they are pandering to the lowest common denominator. A large core of Christian Conservatives who only know what their pastor tells them. Everyone needs to get educated in this fact Islam is a religion of peace, Christianity is a religion of peace, Judaism is a religion of peace. The central tenet of all of these faiths is “Due unto others as you would have them do unto you”. The reason for a solid half of the strife and hatred in the world is because many people loose site of that fact. So lets quit letting the radicals and the nuts, and the crazy folk determine the way we see each other, get out and meet people visit a mosque, attend temple with a Jewish friend, go to Christian services some Sunday, it really is not that early. If you refuse to take the world view of the radicals into account when you plot your own world view, you sap them of all their power. So for those who have faith, whatever that faith is, and for for those that don’t have faith, like myself and others. The more we know about each other, the less likely we are to hate each other.
